DENVER– The fifteen members of the Colorado Senate Republican caucus have each independently reached the decision to stand in opposition to House Bill 22-1279.
The bill seeks to make Colorado the most radical abortion state in the Union. Should it pass, the bill will enshrine into law that “a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent or derivative rights under law.” Upon its enactment, HB-1279 will allow for on-demand abortions for the full 40 weeks of pregnancy, including late term abortion, and could lead to the erosion of parental rights.
“Senate Republicans are united in opposition to this bill, and we will work as hard as we can to defeat it when it reaches the Senate floor,” said Minority Leader Chris Holbert. “However, we cannot stop this bill without support from the Democratic majority. We encourage Coloradans to contact Senate Democrats and encourage their opposition to this bill.”
