DENVER – This afternoon, Senator Jerry Sonnenberg (R-Sterling) introduced a resolution to place a ballot measure on the 2020 ballot to allow the General Assembly to transfer lottery proceeds from Greater Outdoors Colorado fund to the state’s education fund.

“We have enough outhouses at soccer fields,” said Senator Sonnenberg. “The state has spent billions of dollars on parks and recreation, and now it is time to make education funding a state priority. Let’s allow the voters to decide which is a higher priority – education or recreation?”

In 2018, Great Outdoors Colorado received $66,250,998 from lottery proceeds, and under Senator Sonnenberg’s proposal, that money would be made available for Colorado’s schools in future years.

*Correction: The original release specified that the measure would go on the 2019 ballot, when it would in fact go on the 2020 ballot.
