DENVER – This afternoon, Senate Democrats voted to postpone Senate Bill 21-023 indefinitely in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill – sponsored by State Senator Barbara Kirkmeyer (R-Weld County) – was inspired by recent revelations in the media of the use of nondisclosure agreements to prohibit state employees from discussing issues pertaining to their employment. Specifically, the recent cases of both Jennifer Flanagan with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office and Mindy Masias with the Colorado Judicial Department.
“Senate Democrats voted to further preserve secrecy in government,” said Senator Kirkmeyer. “I have no idea what they are trying to cover up. We have had repeated issues with nondisclosure agreements being utilized to cover up supposed misdeeds, corruption, misconduct, and even criminal activity. Coloradans have a right to know what public employees are doing and what their government is up to.”
