Denver, Colorado — It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Lewis H. Entz, a respected public servant who dedicated decades of his life to the State of Colorado and served his community with distinction in both legislative and civic roles. Senator Entz passed away on Wednesday, December 10th, 2025, at the age of 94.

Senator Entz’s contributions to Colorado’s political and civic life were significant and enduring. He served in the Colorado House of Representatives for 16 years from 1983 to 1998, prior to his term in the Colorado State Senate, where he served from 2001 to 2006. He represented his constituents with integrity and commitment. A steadfast focus on statewide issues, including agriculture, water resource management, rural economic development, and infrastructure, marked his tenure in the General Assembly.

Serving in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, Senator Entz brought to public service the discipline and leadership he embodied in his military service. Beyond his legislative roles, he was an active member of his community, a licensed pilot, agricultural leader, and advocate for water policy informed by both technical understanding and practical experience. His efforts earned recognition from numerous organizations and academic institutions, reflecting the breadth of his influence, including the recipient of the Colorado Water Congress Wayne Aspinall “Water Leader of the Year” award in 2007.

Throughout his career, Senator Entz was widely respected by colleagues on both sides of the aisle for his thoughtful approach to policymaking and his commitment to the people of Colorado. His legacy includes key legislative achievements and a lifetime of mentorship to emerging leaders in public life.

Colorado Senate Minority Leader Cleave Simpson stated, “Such an honorable public servant, I am so proud to have known him and work with him on important Valley issues. I work with folks at the Capitol today that still recall his legislative prowess and professionalism.”

“Senator Entz spent his life serving the people of Colorado, and we are grateful for the many years he committed to our state,” said House Minority Leader Jarvis Caldwell. “We thank him for his service to Colorado and extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
