DENVER – Senator Barbara Kirkmeyer (R – Weld County) issued the following statement regarding last night’s first meeting of the Joint Select Committee on Rising Utility Rates:
“I know Colorado families are struggling with the rising costs of goods, such as eggs and gas, that we depend on, and we have had a cold winter which has added to the increase of utility bills.”
“To bring cleaner, more affordable, and more reliable energy to Colorado, we first must evaluate new strategies to protect vulnerable Coloradans. Second, we need to evaluate long term rate reform options to stabilize rates for all Coloradans.”
“The Democrat-led General Assembly has implemented policies shaking up our energy system without allowing for proper evaluation. As a result, energy costs have increased by unprecedented levels. In our next two meetings, I look forward to investigating the role the Colorado legislature has played in making energy so expensive in the state of Colorado.”
