Senator Randy Baumgardner represents the citizens of Senate District 8 in Northwestern Colorado. His district includes Garfield, Moffat, Rio Blanco, Routt, Grand, Jackson and Summit Counties.
Prior to being elected to the Senate, Senator Baumgardner served in the Colorado House of Representatives for four years. He previously worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation for eleven years. Senator Baumgardner currently operates two ranches, one between Hot Sulphur Springs and Granby and another north of Cowdrey.
Senator Baumgardner has a passion for land and water rights, education reform, and healthcare solutions. He frequently meets with North American Water, the Denver Water Board and works with numerous county commissioners to find solutions to the water issues facing the counties that make up Senate District 8. With three of the largest coal mines in his district, Senator Baumgardner is a firm believer in an all-of-the-above approach to energy policy that includes responsible oil and gas production, continued support of the coal industry, renewable resources, driven by free market solutions. Senator Baumgardner will continue to protect water rights, promote water storage, and advocate for Colorado’s ranchers and farmers who provide resources for our state.
Senator Baumgardner has been named Legislator of the Year by the Economic Development Council of Colorado. He has received the Common Sense in the Courtroom Award from the Colorado Civil Justice League and has been named Taxpayer Guardian by the Colorado Union of Taxpayers.
