Sen. Herpin sets sights on Jessica’s Law, repealing magazine ban

Colorado Spring’s newest lawmaker will have a full-plate during the 2014 legislative session as he aims to repeal the new ban on high-capacity magazines, to toughen sentencing on sex-offenders, to help journalists protect their sources and to give school districts more flexibility on the inspectors they use for plumbing and electric services.

Sen. Bernie Herpin, R-Colorado Springs, was elected in September during the recall election that kicked former Senate President John Morse, a Democrat, out of office over gun legislation he sponsored and supported during the 2013 Colorado General Assembly.

“I never expected to have this position,” Herpin said. “I loved serving on city council and when that ended I thought that would be it.”
