A House bill sponsored by Senator George Rivera (R-Pueblo) and Senator Irene Aguilar (D-Denver) to aid terminally ill patients in Colorado passed the Senate on third reading today in a unanimous vote.
The bill, HB14-1281, makes it possible for terminally ill patients in Colorado to access investigational drugs that have not yet been fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
“This is a huge achievement on an issue that has garnered national attention,” said Senator Rivera. “People in Colorado and across the country have called for making more medical options available to terminally ill patients. This non-partisan bill does that exact thing. Often times it takes states like Colorado to lead the way in order to get the federal government to act and we hope this bill sends a message to Washington, DC that it’s time to move forward on this critical issue.”
