DENVER, Colo. - Senator Kent Lambert issued the following statement today after his bill to prohibit discrimination in higher education funding passed the Senate Education Committee on a bipartisan 9-0 vote.
"Racial discrimination has no place in funding formulas for Colorados higher education institutions. Todays action is a step in the right direction and its encouraging that every Democrat on the Senate Education Committee also voted in favor of the bill. Im hopeful that this legislation will continue to progress through the legislature in a bipartisan fashion and will ultimately be signed by Governor Hickenlooper into law."
SB15-117 sponsored by Senator Lambert bill prohibits the Colorado legislature and the Colorado Commission on Higher Education from determining funding for Colorados higher education institutions based solely on the race, color, national origin, or sex of a student.
