Hill’s Senate Bill 12 Passes Through Education Committee

DENVER – Today, the Senate Education Committee voted 6 to 1 in the affirmative on Senator Owen Hill’s (R-Colorado Springs) Senate Bill 12, which allows military enlistment to be recognized in Colorado’s educational performance indicators, equal with enrollment in postsecondary education.

Performance indicators are an important factor in measuring whether or not schools are meeting state and federal standards for success.

“I know the members of the Education Committee many times have divergent views, but this is one of those areas that unifies us,” said Senator Hill. “There are many productive opportunities after high school from college to certificate programs to workforce training. It’s time we recognize military enlistment as a great opportunity.”

The bill now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee for consideration.
