Grantham Responds to Decision Not to Call Special Session

DENVER -- Senate President Kevin Grantham (R-Canon City) released the following statement today in response to Gov. John Hickenlooper’s decision not to call a special session:

“I’m glad the governor thought better of it, because I could never quite understand what he hoped to accomplish with a special session that couldn’t have been accomplished during the regular session. We never quite saw the urgency on this that the governor did, because we just completed a full 120-day session where these issues were debated exhaustively, with every opportunity for the Governor to have weighed-in. This was a very, very productive session, even by the Governor’s own account. There will be plenty of opportunity for us to continue these exchanges during the second half of the 71st General Assembly. If any bona fide emergencies come up in the meantime, which truly merit a special session, he knows where to reach us.”
