Grantham Pays Tribute to PERA Executive Director Greg Smith

Denver -- Colorado Senate President Kevin J. Grantham (R-Canon City) today reacted with shock and sadness to news that Greg Smith, executive director of the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association, passed away suddenly during a vacation in Hawaii. Grantham praised Smith for the steady hand and consistent leadership he demonstrated while leading the state’s pension fund through challenging times.

“Greg without a doubt had one of the toughest jobs in Colorado, given the weight of his responsibilities and the spotlight that pension issues always attract, but he handled it all with grace, patience, collegiality and an unwavering commitment to serving the best interests of his clients the pension-holders,” said Grantham. “His passing comes at a pivotal time for PERA, leaving a leadership void that will be hard to fill, but I’m sure that reform efforts can move toward a reasonable resolution if we take inspiration from his example.”

“Our prayers and condolences go out to Greg’s family, friends and colleagues at PERA,” Grantham concluded. “Not just PERA pensioners but the entire state of Colorado owe Greg thanks for his far-reaching contributions as a public servant.”
