Elections Study Group Hosts First Meeting Saturday

Denver – Coloradans who either supported or opposed two presidential primary bills introduced and then defeated late in the 2016 legislative session will have an opportunity to renew the discussion this Saturday, June 11, when a task force created by Republican lawmakers to further study the issue holds its first meeting. Press and public are encouraged to attend.

The Colorado Elections Study Group will be meeting between 1:00 and 3:00 pm in the Capitol’s Old Supreme Court Chambers. The participation of all interested parties -- Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, independents – is encouraged.

The group's founding members are Senators Kevin Grantham (R-Canon City), Laura Woods (R-Arvada), Ray Scott (R-Grand Junction), Jerry Sonnenberg (R-Sterling), and Kevin Lundberg (R-Berthoud). Lundberg is the Assistant Majority Leader in the Senate.

"Many lawmakers were frustrated by the lack of adequate time for full hearings and public debate on the different alternative ways to add a presidential primary and how it would interact with the grassroots involvement encouraged by the present caucus system. This study group allows us to have an extended, wide open examination of these important questions," said Grantham.

"Our experience with the primary bills showed that finding consensus on this topic isn’t easy, given the wide array of opinions and interests involved, but we think more progress can be made free from the deadline pressures that cut short this year's debate," added Grantham.

When: Saturday, June 11, between 1 and 3 pm.

As a registered member of the GOP, I will be happy with whatever you guys decide to do whilst smoking cigars and drinking fine cognac in the back room.
Caucus, primary: whatever.
One is very responsive to party activists.
And the other to low-information voters.
