Colorado Senate Proactively Combats Sexual Misconduct

Denver -- Senate President Kevin J. Grantham (R-Canon City) issued the following statement today in response to a news report focused on sexual climate issues at the Statehouse, emphasizing that the Colorado Senate takes such matters very seriously and has been proactive about combating potential problems through regular and extensive trainings, a widely distributed set of clear policies and a complaint process that protects the confidentiality and rights of participants.

"We take any and all allegations of sexual harassment or misconduct very seriously. The legislature has been proactive about heading-off potential problems by conducting in-depth sexual harassment awareness training for legislators and staff, and we have a formal process in place to address issues if they arise. At this time we have no active complaints on these issues, but we will continue to be proactive about educating lawmakers and staff and policing problems should they occur."
